Black carbon molecular sieves (cms) are highly porous, carbon-based adsorbent materials used for gas separation, most notably in the industrial production of nitrogen from air. They feature a unique, microporous structure with a tailored pore size distribution that allows for the selective adsorption of gas molecules based on their size and diffusion speed. Specifically, they are designed to adsorb oxygen molecules faster than nitrogen molecules, allowing the nitrogen to pass through and be collected in applications like pressure swing adsorption (psa) systems.
